German Chancellor Angela Merkel receives an effigy of a golden goose from a "Carnival Prince" at a reception of German Carnival delegates on Jan. 24 in Berlin. The tale of the golden goose was a Brothers Grimm fable, and the Carnival is an annual German celebration which culminates in parades on Rose Monday in February.
